I'm back in the South, on an extended parental visit (which also includes propping my mother up, who would otherwise be about to explode from caring for her own elderly, stroke-recovering, depressed and impossible to deal with mum).

I've already been swimming in the outdoor pool, hoovered up an amazing quantity of cobwebs from my dad's office, and managed to persuade my family that Dancing Stage: Hottest Party is brilliant fun (which it is). Today I'm heading off to Bristol Balloon Fiesta (go away, clouds) and I have plans to swim in the sea quite soon.

I am finding that my annoying-children threshold has lowered significantly now that term is over. Where previously I would have smiled a knowing smile and thought encouraging things about any given 4-year-old darling's vocabulary, I now find myself ready to scream. Hopefully my usual patient, teacherly nature will return before term starts.

I'm exactly the same at the moment, annoying kids make me want to scream! yet I quite cheerfully deal with them when I'm at work, it's weird!! xx

Hi

Has your mum been in touch with the local carers centre ? Not sure what area your family live in, but they should be able to provide advice and support to her. Your mum is also legally entitled to a carers assessment which will look at any support she might be entitled to in terms of providing care, regardless of whether her mum is assessed as needing support. She may also be able to qualify for a carers grant to give her some sort of break.

Sorry if that seems intrusive, but I used to work for a carers centre and think that anybody with a caring role should at least get in touch with them to see what they support might be available. Caring for a loved one is not easy.

there's an outdoor pool near here, with a lovely view of the moor...but I think the coldness may be too much for me. I might be weedy and go in the indoor one next to it.
